Samaritan House of Atlanta, Café 458
Huger & Homelessness - Serving the Homeless
Description:
This award-winning restaurant has a passion for helping others! Café 458 isn’t your everyday restaurant. The kitchen and wait staffs are volunteers, and during the week, Café 458 provides nutritious meals to homeless men and women, served right in the restaurant. All the proceeds, including tips, support Samaritan House of Atlanta’s services that provide Atlanta’s homeless men and women with the tools and resources to gain self-sufficiency. The ASB Team will be working at Café 458 as waiters and waitresses for the hungry and homeless. This unique trip is sure to be memorable and insightful.

Eastbank Storm Station
Disaster Recovery - Hurricane Katrina Relief
Description:
In response to hurricane Katrina, the Louisiana Conference formed Louisiana Disaster Recovery Ministry to serve the needs of those impacted by the devastation throughout the southern portion of Louisiana. Many people are still rebuilding their homes three years after the tragedy. The ASB team will be working on destroyed homes tearing out and removing to curbside items such as appliances, furniture, carpets, wallboard, insulation, miscellaneous debris and general cleaning of damaged residences. Other projects may include installation of insulation, drywall, and interior painting. This trip is an excellent way to get an inside perspective on how Hurricane Katrina and the ensuing reconstruction has affected the people of New Orleans.

Habitat for Humanity
Housing - Building Low Cost Homes for Families
Description:
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry. Habitat welcomes all people--regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or any other difference--to build simple, decent, affordable houses with those who lack adequate shelter. Homeowners are selected based on their need for housing, their ability to repay a mortgage and their willingness to work in partnership with Habitat. The ASB Team will be working with a Habitat Affiliate to help build houses throughout the week. Tasks may include a wide range of construction procedures such as drywall, roofing, woodwork etc. No prior training or skills are required because on-site training is provided to all volunteers. If you’re interested in learning your way around a toolbox and helping a family in need this is the trip for you.
Crossville, TN
Cumberland Trail
Environmental Conservation – Nature Trail Building
Description:
The Cumberland Trail is a rugged, historical trail celebrating the heritage of Tennessee. Students and volunteers stay in East Tennessee and participate in trail building/maintenance for a week. ASB volunteers will be taking part in a wide range of activities such as using fire rakes to clear leaf cover on the trail, using hand clippers and pocket saws to clear small limbs and bushes from the trail corridor, using mattocks to make a level trail by cutting into hillsides and ridges, installing water bars to control erosion, building rock steps and footbridges, and painting blazes on trees in order to mark the trail. This is a great opportunity to learn about the beautiful plant and animal life as well as helping to finish a part of the incredible 300 mile trail.

Mid-Atlantic Border Collie Rescue
Animals – Dog Rescue
Description:
The Mid-Atlantic Border Collie Rescue is a not-for-profit organization that is run by volunteers. Fundamentally, Mid-Atlantic Border Collie Rescue is a haven for Border Collies and dogs of the Herding group that have been discarded, neglected, abandoned or stray. Many of these dogs are turned into animal shelters because their previous owners discovered they were not border collie material or because changes in their lives left them unable to care properly for their dogs. These dogs are rescued from an uncertain future and placed into responsible homes. ASB Volunteers will be performing a variety of tasks related to helping the MABCR. This is going to be a fun trip for any animal lovers.

Junior Achievement
Youth & Education – Elementary School Teaching
Description:
Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students in grades K-12 about entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. Junior Achievement programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action, and learn the value of contributing to their communities. The ASB Team will be working with students in an elementary school to teach the Junior Achievement curriculum. If you like working with kids and want to teach something they can use for the future this is the trip for you.

Dolphin Research Center
Animals and Environment
Description:
The Dolphin Research Center, founded in 1984, is a not-for-profit organization located in the Middle Keys of Florida that works as a unique education and research facility. They currently house Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and California sea lions and have over 50,000 visitors a year from around the world. Their mission is to "promote peaceful coexistence, cooperation and communication between marine mammals, humans and the environment we share through research and education." Volunteers would be carrying out various projects such as painting facilities and "monitoring the causeway," which would involve listening to narrations and watching dolphins. There is also an opportunity to volunteer with the nearby Turtle Hospital.
Description:
If you are looking for something other than your average Spring Break vacation, come out to Outdoor Adventure's Extreme ASB! It's a great opportunity to give back to the community and also discover your adventurous side through exciting activities. We will be doing four days of community service at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama and two full days of outdoor activities. Our volunteer work will include work in the horse stables and a river clean up. On our two activity days, we will go horseback riding, participate in a cave tour and kayak/canoe down a river. Come experience the beauty of Oak Mountain State Park while giving back to the community! The cost of this trip includes: transportation, meals, lodging, and extracurricular activities.
